CBC | Adults with intellectual disabilities look forward to living independently after pilot program

Living with a learning disability, Jennifer Lavallee said six months ago she feared the idea of living away from her parents.

"Being my age, I can't stay home forever. So I was a little scared to just go live on my own somewhere," said the 22-year-old.

Lavallee is one of 15 students who graduated from a program run by non-profit group L'Arche Saint John, which teaches adults with intellectual disabilities the skills they need to live independently.

The program is a pilot called L'Arche Connects Outreach. Lavallee was part of its first cohort of participants, most of whom started in January.
