Partnerships build community

Earlier this month, we welcomed a group of volunteers from Moosehead Breweries to help in our garden for the afternoon. They swapped typing on their computers for planting trees and laying mulch alongside L’Arche members.

It was a beautiful, sunny fall day. You could feel the joy of being together in that moment.

This special day was just one of the ways we continue to explore ways to build partnerships that fertilize our mission: to make known the gifts and contributions of people with intellectual disabilities in our world.

Another exciting partnership we are building is with the University of New Brunswick Saint John campus. As of last week, students, faculty and visitors can now purchase greeting cards, which were designed by our artists with intellectual disabilities at Creative Connections, at the campus bookstore. And in early November, Patrick and I will speak to a sociology class on disability.

Our artists at Creative Connections are now busy preparing for an art show at Government House, the Lieutenant Governor's residence in Fredericton, in November. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for more updates.

Now that summer is behind us and with it, our evenings spent together in the garden, we invite you to join us for our community gathering on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at Creative Connections. These gatherings are an opportunity to bring together people from McKim House, Creative Connections, friends and family to share community news, sing together, enjoy dessert and welcome new friends. You can learn more here.

Whether you’re a new friend from Moosehead or have been a faithful friend and supporter for 15 years, I thank you for your commitment to helping us build a world where everyone belongs!
