We are thrilled to introduce you to five wonderful, bright and enthusiastic post-secondary students who joined our team this summer: Jenna, Cameron, Allie, Amanda, and Claire!
JENNA DOBBELSTEYN
House Leader
I am a current student of Psychology and English at UNB Saint John, and this coming school year I will be applying for graduate studies in Occupational Therapy. I originally started with L'Arche in September of 2017, and after two years as a casual house assistant, I made the difficult decision to step back and focus on my job as an educational assistant and my studies. When I was approached about taking on the role of House Leader this summer, I was nervous but also incredibly excited to be back with a community dear to my heart where my friends were waiting for me. L'Arche brings a joy to my life that is not available elsewhere, and I am looking forward to a fun and fulfilling summer at McKim House.
CAMERON KEYES
House/Program Assistant
I just finished my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at St. Francis Xavier University in May. I plan on attending UNB Fredericton in the fall to pursue a Master of Science in Chemistry, and I’m hoping to pursue medicine afterwards. I was brought to L’Arche and McKim House because my Aunt Sarah is one of the core members and I really wanted to get involved after I had heard so many wonderful things. I’m loving my time here so far! I love taking the members on drives and walks around the Saint John area.
ALLIE WEIR
House/Program Assistant
I am going into my third year at UNB Fredericton, working towards a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology. After finishing my degree, I hope to travel before furthering my education in law school or a master’s program. I was drawn to L’Arche because of the sense of family created within the community. I am delighted I was welcomed into the family and given the opportunity to create fun and meaningful relationships within the L’Arche community.
Thanks to funding from the Student Employment Experience Development (SEED) program for providing funding to create summer job opportunities for Cameron and Allie.
AMANDA A.
Program Assistant
I am currently a third-year student at UNB Saint John studying Psychology in the Bachelor of Arts program. I intend to pursue a career in Clinical Psychology. L'Arche Saint John is a wonderful and close-knit community that has made me feel welcoming and valued always. Since working at Creative Connections this summer, I have made new and meaningful friendships with the artists, and I look forward to seeing them every day. What brought me to L'Arche was our shared views on making the world an inclusive place for people with disabilities whilst embracing our diversity with love, care, and respect.
Thanks to our partners at the UNB Saint John Office of Experiential Learning for providing funding to create this summer job opportunity for Amanda.
CLAIRE K.
Program Assistant
I am going into my second year of Human Kinetics at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia in the fall. Following my undergrad degree, I hope to pursue a career in medicine. I am so excited to work with everyone at Creative Connections this summer and make some new friends! L’Arche has a special place in my heart due to my Aunt Sarah being a core member, and I look forward to having a greater role within L’Arche.
Thanks to funding from Canada Summer Jobs for providing funding to create this summer job opportunity for Claire.
